a rainy day hike to castle craig

Note to self...ALWAYS check the weather before going on a hike
Recently, we loaded up the car and checked and double-checked that we had everything we needed.

Trail Map-Check

Water-Check

First Aid Kit-Check

Snacks-Check

Compass-Check

But somehow we completely forgot to check the weather. If we had, we would have known that there was going to be a downpour. Instead, we made the 2 hour drive from Boston to Connecticut to hike Castle Craig in blissful ignorance.

When we started the 4 mile hike up to Castle Craig, we were initially happy that it was overcast because it was so hot and humid out. But those dark clouds foreshadowed a big rain storm.
Not even a mile into the hike, it started to rain. ALOT. Neither of us had jackets along so we were completely soaked through within a few minutes. At one point I was wringing out my shirt and thinking why bother. But surprisingly, the rain was really nice. It cooled us down so much. And while the path was a bit slippery, it was actually easier to hike since we weren't too hot anymore.
And right when we were hiking down from the castle, the weather changed. The sun came out of nowhere and we got the best views.
Love the sun coming out and warming us up.
Depending on the hike, getting caught in bad weather can be detrimental. So we should have checked. But at the same time, I'm glad we didn't. Had we known it was going to rain, we would have  stayed home. So even though we got a little wet...well soaked actually, it was worth it.
