History of Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia has a lot of locations of interest to history buffs like me. Culture in this highly diverse region with a long history. Good start to travel, because affordable in terms of budget and distance.

Here are some of the historic sites in Southeast Asia that I recommend. Hopefully inspire you to plan your next trip!

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Literally the name means "temple (sized) town / city temple". Its size is massive, about 80 hectares. Founded in the 12th century by the king Suryavarman II as part of the Khmer empire that stood in the same century. Uniquely, it is one of the Buddhist temple complex that was originally used by Hindus.

Ayutthaya, Thailand

Ayutthaya is the kingdom that is at the heart of Thailand today. He is one of the richest kingdoms in Southeast Asia. Ayutthaya itself today refers to the old town complex in the modern city which is also called Ayutthaya. A collection of temples (wat) heritage can be visited in the capital Ayutthaya Ayutthaya Historical Park.

Borobudur, Indonesia

Borobodur is another famous temple complex in Southeast Asia. For us that in Indonesia, visited him very easily. Although smaller than Angkor Wat, Borobudur older, built in the 9th century. The temple is also from the beginning is dedicated to Buddhists.

Luang Prabang, Laos

The city is the royal capital Luang Prabang, established in the 17th century until the late 18th century. Much like Ayutthaya, Thailand, in the city's many historic buildings such as temples heritage (also called wat in Laos).

Hue, Vietnam

Hue was once the capital of Vietnam when the country was under the flag of the Nguyen Dynasty. Long dynastic history left some historic buildings, such as forts, monuments and tombs. Moreover, it lies in the middle of Vietnam became the location of the battle between the forces of South Vietnam and North Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Melaka, Malaysia

Established as a strategic post of Portuguese colonialism in order to expand into Southeast Asia. Could be a stopover heading the Dutch as well. Some of the colonial legacy as a bastion (A Famosa) and town hall (Stadthuys) are here. Suitable if you like the tour of the old town.

Singapore

Travel need not only about the history of the temple or the specific site. Some parts of a city or country can become an interesting historical excursion. Perhaps nobody imagined about Singapore as a historic place, but Singapore has interesting colonial history.

He became the intersection of many moments in the past and changed hands to a lot of parties, ranging from Sriwijaya, England, to Malaysia. Total population is dominated many immigrants because of its strategic location. As a consequence, Singapore grew into an economic center and industrial establishment.
