The Electric MassKara is an annual street parade during the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, where paraders all clad in colorful costumes and beautifully-adorned masks light up and dance to the beat of the drums along the Tourism Strip in Lacson Street for two consecutive nights. With the theme, “Pagkilita-ay,Pakita-ay” ("We meet and show off."), it showcased how Bacolod and its people have fun — the Mardi Gras kind of way, that is.
Right after we ate at the old Pala-pala Market in San Juan street, Bogy, Wharton, Kate, Nonoy and I went straight to the Electric MassKara to witness it for the first time. Navigating through the crowd proved to be challenging as hordes of partygoers, regardless of sobriety levels, flocked the streets. I had my share of my touching other people's bodies as we wrestled our way but that's going to be a different story.

For hours, the crowd numbers never went down as more and more party goers dropped by. I don't know. There's something about Bacolod and its people that transformed the entire strip to a one hell of a street party. Maybe it's the lively ambiance. Maybe it's the overflowing beer. Maybe it's from the tribal down to techno music. Maybe it's the Koreans. Or the street dancers of indeterminate sex (thanks to their masks and costumes).
