Your Singapore experience will never be complete if you've not gone to (or at least planning to) visit Marina Bay Sands and watch the Light and Water Show. If you've been to Hong Kong and watched the Symphony of Lights at Victoria Harbour but somehow it bored you to death, then Marina Bay Sands' Light and Water Show will definitely bring you back to life as it will literally show you the "wonder full" side of life.
The two shows might be alike (e.g. both use laser lights mounted on top of buildings) but they are actually very much different in their own way. Both are free and equally visually stunning but I prefer Singapore's light and water show for a few reasons.
There are also other places/tourist spots in the vicinity like the Merlion Park, Helix bridge, The Shoppes, Singapore Flyer, and the iconic Marina Bay Sands Hotel's Skypark (or if you're feeling lucky, try the casino) where you can visit right after watching the show. Or if you're already tired, you can just eat at nearby restaurants and watch the scenic view of the buildings at the bay area.
Show Schedule
The light and water show at Marina Bay Sands runs every night at 8:00PM and 9:30PM during Sundays to Thursdays and an additional show at 11:00PM during Fridays and Saturdays.
How to Get There
You can take the taxi but it can get very expensive. If you take the bus (03511 or 03519), drop-off point is along Bayfront Avenue. If you choose to take the rain, you can alight at the closest MRT station (Bayfront) or you can alight from Marina Bay MRT or Promenade MRT stations and take a 5 to 10 minute walk.
Tips and Few Pointers
For first-timers, here are some handy pointers to remember:
• Come early. Be sure to come early to get the best seat.
• Maximize viewing pleasure. Don't seat near the water fountain. Try to sit further at the back to get an almost 180 degree view. Another vantage point is at the Merlion Park to fully see the laser lights from the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
• Take photos. The show's an eye-candy and for posterity's sake, bring a camera and a tripod.
• Perfect weather for the show. If it's raining or if it's windy, try other places around Singapore. Watch out for my succeeding posts as I spill the best places to go to in Singapore while traveling solo.
