How to Get to Guimaras Island from Iloilo City

Guimaras is a fourth class island province sandwiched between the islands of Panay and Negros and only a few minutes south of Iloilo City. Known for their sweet mangoes and white sand beaches, it has become one of the top tourist destinations in Central Visayas.

How to Get to Guimaras from Iloilo City
From Iloilo International Airport, take a van going to SM City Iloilo. The van terminal is just in front of the arrival area and the standard fare for the 20-30 minute travel is only PHP50.00. The dispatcher will ask for the fare before everyone gets to leave the airport. Alternatively, there are also metered taxis in the airport but it is more expensive.

As soon as you arrive in SM City Iloilo, take a metered taxi going to Ortiz Wharf (if you're planning to stay in the touristy parts of the islands — Jordan or Nueva Valencia). On the other hand, if you're planning to stay in seclusion in Buenavista, take a metered taxi going to Parola. See my Google public map below.

From Ortiz wharf or Parola, take the pump boat going to Guimaras Island. The two main ports of entry in Guimaras are Jordan Wharf or Buenavista Wharf, which take 15-20 minutes to reach. Fare is only PHP15.00 and you need to pay at the ticket booths before boarding.

Moving around Guimaras Island
Almost all municipalities and barangays in the island can be reached by land transport with the exception of 3 island barangays that can only be reached by pump boats. You can hire a tricycle or a 'single' motorcycles for a fee depending on how far your destination is. You can also ride a jeepney going to your destination but there are only a few of them in the island.

For more information in the public transportation in Guimaras, you can check out their official website at http://guimaras.gov.ph/tourism/public-utilities/ and for more general information, you can visit the homepage here: http://guimaras.gov.ph/.
